Media Monday: Have You Seen?

 I'm not really how my train of thought got here this evening. I passed on watching a movie with my mother tonight, My Week with Marilynn, it's one I want to see but I just really have to be in a "movie-mood". At 7pm on a Sunday night, with a potentially emotional and stress-filled week ahead of me, I really don't want to turn my brain on and focus on something. I want brainless. I want facebook and hulu and to just become a zombie.

Somehow this all turned into "I wonder how many of 'classics' I've seen?" So I found the AFI (American Film Institute) Greatest 100 films and I thought I'd see how many I've seen. Why don't you count yours along with me... the one's I have seen are bolded... now no one get mad at me for the one's I haven't seen... okay?

*               *              *

1. Citizen Kane (1941)

2. Casablanca (1942)

3. The Godfather (1972) I just recently saw this actually. Many friends were surprised that I hadn't, despite being Italian-American. You know because apparently you can't be Italian-American without having seen the Godfather. Well now I have.... just haven't seen 2 or 3.

4. Gone With The Wind (1939) Absolutely love it. I usually have to watch it over two or three days because it's so long and I get antsy but I agree it's a classic.

5. Lawrence Of Arabia (1962)

6. The Wizard Of Oz (1939) Another that I just love. It's a family favorite and we've already introduced my three year old niece to it.

7. The Graduate (1967)

8. On The Waterfront (1954)

9. Schindler's List (1993) Have only ever seen pieces/clips. I just can't bring myself to watch it. Maybe someday.

10. Singin' In The Rain (1952)

11. It's A Wonderful Life (1946) I refuse. I don't know why but I do. Maybe because it's "a classic" that everyone (aka tv networks) have played to death. I just don't see myself ever watching it.

12. Sunset Boulevard (1950)

13. The Bridge On The River Kwai (1957)

14. Some Like It Hot (1959) Marilyn Monroe with Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon in drag - how could I not be in love with this film? Sad thing is I don't own it. Christmas gift idea!

Okay so that's .... *counting* .... (wow) only 20 of the 100 on the AFI list. Guess I shouldn't say "I'm into films" every huh? I mean there are a few on there that I haven't seen that I feel I "should" because they are classics but like I said when I started this blog - I have to be in a "movie-mood". And apparently that's not as often as it could be.

How about you? How many have you seen? Any films you think should be on the list that aren't?
