Fill in the Blank Friday

This afternoon I thought I'd join Lauren @ The Little Things We Do and her Fill in the Blank Friday.

1. Over this labor day weekend I will be hosting a girls brunch with the family and then the farmer's market, a theatrical showing of Shakespeare's Henry V (with my cousin). I'll be posting pictures later this weekend. Hopefully I'll also be launching a giveaway.

2. With the political debates happening right now, my thoughts are "Dear Universe, please let President Obama be reelected our women's rights not thrown back 60+ years"

3. Today I stayed home (boo migraine this morning) and then cleaned the house - dusting, sweeping, mopping, dishes, etc etc etc.

4. The best thing I've cooked recently is either the salmon cake recipe I developed the other night or the black bean burgers (a recipe I followed from iz originals).

5. The last thing I bought was a cute blue and black stripped blouse.

6. The best movie I saw this summer was Ice Age: Continental Drift - for a frame of reference in comparison I saw also saw Dark Shadows, Men in Black III, Mirror Mirror, Snow White and the Huntsman, and Madagascar 3 (between May-July).

original post.
7. The best book I read this summer was any number of the New York tourists books I've been devouring. I have two weeks before I go to visit Mr. New Jersey and have been looking into things to do and places to go.

Girls Brunch

This weekend I'm having the women of my family over for a Girl's Brunch

It'll be the first time my cousin has gotten some time with adults, without the 4 year old interrupting with "Mommy. Mommy. Mommy." She and I are also going to a theatrical production of Shakespeare's Henry V (Part 1) - she has to attend a play for her theatre class.

I'm excited for the brunch though. We're doing it pot luck style but my mother and I are cooking the "main dish" ...something and eggs. Also, I'm bringing some champagne home that was left over from a work event (thank you Boss Lady) so I figured we'll do mimosa like beverages too.

I love hosting small intimate "parties" like this. Doesn't matter if it's five family members for brunch or twelve for a holiday dinner. I think I'm going to need to play some on Pinterest today to get inspired more. Here's what I've already found:

Ambiance is as important as the food. And with the weather starting to get cooler (I almost needed a jacket this morning) and Autumn so close I figured a table to get us in the mood.

Then of course there is the main dish. I've made similar egg muffins before and they turned out yummy. I'm thinking I might go this route just because it's easy and they bake fast...but these other ones look good too and there is only five of us!

And last but not least there's the champagne cocktails. I'm bringing the champagne but my aunt is bringing the mixer so I'm not sure what we'll be drinking until she arrives.

My youngest sister is bringing a loaf of bread from the bakery, my cousin is bringing blueberry muffins, and my older sister (if she can come) is bringing a fruit salad.

I've already talked with my mother and we agree that my Great Grandmother's Hungarian China need to be brought out for this Girl's Brunch. If we're going to make it special might as well go all the way.

How Pinteresting: NYC Edition

Today has been a hard day for me at work. I have too many things on my To-Do list and what feels like not enough hours in the day. However, it's my lunch break and I'm going to zone out and have fun on Pinterest for today's How Pinteresting Wednesday!

Since I am only 16 days and 7 hours (approximately) from landing at Newark and spending a weekend with my Jersey Boy in NYC I thought today's How Pinteresting should be a NYC Edition.

Time to go play on Pinterest. I'll be back....

I have to admit this is what I'm most excited for... Newark International Airport. Only because that means this is all really happening and my Mr. New Jersey will be waiting for me outside security.

Found here.
Then of course there is the dreaded Turnpike. When my aunt (who grew up in New Jersey) found out I was going she told me to avoid it at all cost. However I think to get to Jersey Boy's house we have to go. If only it really looked like this:

Found here.
Although Mr. New Jersey lives in (surprise) New Jersey, he lives just over the George Washington Bridge from New York City (where he also works) and we plan to spend most of our time there.

Found here.
Aside from the fact that I'm so excited to meet Mr. New Jersey face-to-face (beyond excited...excited doesn't even begin to describe how I'm feeling!!) I'm also excited to visit NYC. My high school theatre troupe went one year but my family couldn't afford it (even with fundraising) so I didn't get to go.

Since this will be my first time (and part of me likes the idea of my first time being 1-on-1 with a special someone versus a large group of HS students) there are so many places I want to see.

Like the Empire State Building:

Found here.
The Statue of Liberty:

Found here.
Central Park:

Found here.
There's also food I want to try....like REAL New York Pizza, a gooood Jewish deli bagel, and of course New York street food like "Dirty Water Dogs" (one of Anthony Bourdain's favorites).

Found here.
Honestly I'm most excited to meet my Jersey Boy and see what the chemistry is like in person. Everything else is just a perk.

Amusing August Blog Hop: Celebrity Crush

Welcome to week four of the blog hop!

<a href="http://shelbychasingbirdies.blogspot.com/"><img src="http://i1091.photobucket.com/albums/i399/sweetconfessions/bloghop3.jpg" width="200" height="219" alt="Chasing Birdies" /></a>

***Who is your celebrity crush?***
It's funny to me that this is this week's Amusing August Blog Hop question because just earlier last week I did a post about who my Hollywood Crushes were (in response to a question from a reader in regards to my "type" of men). Last week when I saw the prompt for today I commented to Shelby how funny this was but promised to expand or re-post in some way.
Instead of reposting the pictures of the men I posted last week (no, I promise I'm not turning into "THAT" type of blog) - because you can always go look at that post. I thought I'd post someone I didn't mention last week.
That would be Joe Manganiello...for those True Blood fans out there he plays Alcide:

Again, tall- dark- handsome - built like a brick wall.... **Drool**

Funny too, when I was out getting a pedicure this last weekend I was thumbing through some rag-mag that had a whole page about him:

Best pieces of the (brief) article?

"Last Thing I Splurged On...I bought a leather U shipped couch...It's 11 ft. in the center... I'm a big dude."

"Last Piece of Advice My Mother Gave Me Was... Sex accounts for 40 percent of your relationship, but if it's bad, then it's 60"

And last but not least his celebrity crush? Sophia Vergara. "All too often Hollywood actresses are super skinny. As a man, my primal instincts don't kick in when they are skinny. I like curves."
He can release his primal instincts on my curves any day. LOL

The L Word

Two questions for you today.

1. How long were you with your sweetheart before you knew you were in love?

2. How long before you/they said "I love you"

(Disclaimer: No, this is not my way of telling you I'm using the "L" word with Mr. New Jersey. Nor, is this a way of me telling you he has used it with me....this is just out of curiosity).

Happy Weekend

Sometimes I wish there was an extra day to the weekend just to recuperate from the weekend. This weekend was a lot of fun - pedicure, farmers market, shipping - but exhausting.

Pre-Jersey pedicure, geese at a creek, chicken & waffles breakfast
and the bizarre crap at Tuesday Morning.
Absolutely gorgeous flowers from Mom's Farm!!
Amazing produce at the farmer's market. Bought some peaches...YUMMY
I bought the bottom two pieces but plan on going back to get the top two.

The Sunday Social

Happy Sunday morning everyone. I thought since I'd been a little MIA this week (see last post) that I'd spend this beautiful quiet morning linking up to A Complete Waste of Makeup's Sunday Social.

This week's questions are all about the internet (very appropriate):

1. What is the first website you log onto each day? Email usually, than Facebook.

2. Give us some funny websites you visit that we need to know about. Gosh, I really don't surf the internet enough to find "funny" websites....one blog that I was introduced to earlier this week was Pintrosity (showing failed Pinterest attempts but I love that the bloggers try and offer HELPFUL advice on what went wrong - not just bashing the attempts).

3. Pinterest or Facebook? (Why?) Both. I use them very differently so to me you can't compare them.

Pinterest is my "I'm bored" guilty pleasure. I use it for finding dinner suggestions, pictures to share on my blog's Facebook page, and even using it for helping others find inspiration for DIY projects.

Facebook I use to stay connected to family and friends. To share my personal photography, to promote my blog. Sometimes there's a cross over with Pinterest but they're not the same.

4. Twitter or Instagram? (Why?) I have a Twitter account (@msmorganc) for blog promotion and really haven't figured out the point of Instagram (yea, yea, I know share pictures).  I almost think question #3 and #4 should be mixed. Twitter vs Facebook and Pinterest vs. Instagram.

5. Favorite Youtube video (post it).

Right now it's TOTALLY the Renegade Raging Grannies!

But the Surprised Kitty is one I can watch over and over and over again.

6. Biggest online pet peeve? While I am NOT a fan of people who write in text speak for everything (i.e., "LOL" is fine...but "CU 2morrow"...really??!!!) It's one thing to use abbreviations when the longer version is awkward (who of us would look at someone a little funny if they wrote "laughing out loud" in a blog post?)

But that's not my BIGGEST pet peeve.

THAT! My dear readers... would be the Negative Nancys out there... haters. If you don't like a blog. If you don't like a video. If you don't like what someone posts THAN DON'T READ/WATCH IT!! I have the right to express myself and my beliefs just as much as you do. However, this doesn't give "you" the right to come into my space (blog, facebook, etc) and voice your negativeness.

Go create your own blog/facebook page. You can express your disgust for BBWs, your anti-woman, anti-gay, hateful thoughts/views there.

Okay...*steps off soap box*

Apologies

I feel like a bad blogger this week...I've commented on a few other's blogs but that's about it.

Work has been crazy and I just don't have the energy when I get home.

Monday/Tuesday I had 8 hour trainings (both days) on Title IX and the investigation process that we're developing (with the help of ATIXA lawyers) for school.

I don't even remember Wednesday.

And yesterday/today has been/will be spent interviewing canidates for our new Administrative Assistant position.

I'm going to try and do today's link up with The Thriftiness Miss...but I can't make promises.

Hopefully I'll get a chance to blog (even if just post pictures) of the new farmer's market I'm going to try out. We're also (at least have plans to) making eggrolls and I want to share my family secrets with these quick-yummy vegetarian delights.

Here's hoping.

Amusing August Blog Hop (Guilty Pleasure)

It's week three of the Amusing August Blog Hop, so you know what that means! It's time to share some laughs and meet new friends. :)

Week Three: Tuesday, August 21, 2012
What are your guilty pleasures?
You know, those things you love even though they're embarrassing or weird!

Okay so since we know from last week was about food I'm not going to talk about my food guilty pleasures...how about I focus on the worse one of all...television.

I haven't had television (in that pay for it every month cable kind of way) since 2008 or so. However, I do have internet which means Netflix and Hulu. So television does still happen in my life - just minus those obnoxious commercials.

Here are my Guilty Pleasures TV Edition:

Castle. It's one of the handful of crime shows I just can't get enough of.

The Mentalist. Waiting for the next season on Netflix because season 4 left
me with my jaw on the ground yelling WHAT THE F***??!!

NCIS. My favorite crime show of all time. I own all the seasons and can
watch them over and over again. Can't wait to buy season nine (haven't seen)

Grimm. Part crime show part fantasy. I also love that it takes place in Portland,
where I live, and recognize places all the time!! Season two is now on playing. Yay!
True Blood. Not a "crime show" but certainly has it's fair share of crime.
I also enjoy a good fantasy program now and then and this raunchy program
takes good care of me. haha. I blame my BFF for getting me hooked.
So what are your guilty pleasures?

Hollywood Crushes

After my Doppelgänger or Type blog Tami commented she'd want to see my Hollywood Crush(s).  But why not? Here we go.

Colin Ferrell

Jonathan Rhys Meyers

David Boreanaz
And then there is my silverfox...

Mark Harmon

Now this isn't to say that the men I date look like these men.... but they are the tall/dark/handsome (in my opinion of course) type for sure... and usually in the "pretty-boy" realm. Give me a man who spends longer in the bathroom getting ready than I do; than a man who looks like he hasn't shaved/showered in days.

25 Days and Counting

Yes, that's right. Only 25 days (and almost exactly two hours) until I land at Newark to visit my Jersey Boy. I've bought these two books in preparation and inspiration. (While I'll be staying in New Jersey much of my days will be in NYC). I'm still open for suggestions, recommendations, etc.

Doppelgänger or a Type?

I've known for a while that I have "a type" that I'm attracted too.

Usually between 5-10 and 6-1.
Short, well groomed, brown/black hair.
Darker - olive tone - complexion.

Pretty generic, I suppose, but this past weekend when I (finally) showed my mother a picture of Jersey her response was:

"I know different ethnicities but he looks like the last one".

I laughed and said, "Yea different ethnicities, this one isn't Asian But yes, I do have a type".

(We'll skip the part when I had issue with her calling the Ex "The Last One")

It got me thinking though....okay and a little worrying. Was I looking for the Ex's doppelgänger* or did I just have such a specific type that Jersey "looks like the last one"?

Do you have a type you're attracted too? How specific is that "type"? Have you ever been known to date a look-a-like?

* * *

*Note: For good or bad I do know that the similarities do end her at least. Jersey and the Ex (so far) don't have much in common. At least not in the cookie-cutter way.

The Week S.O.F.A.R.

Just a short recap of what I posted on Facebook this week.

Miley Cyrus haircut shocker: Short hair isn't a cry for help - She's a teenager. She's supposed to be finding her style with different styles.

Baby Got Back Sung By the Movies - Sooo funny. You have to watch it all the way through.

My Battles With My Body and How Pinup Girl Clothing Helped Me - It is sad that so many women go through a similar story of self-image and body hatred. The author is lucky that she not only found happiness in herself but also a style and subculture that embraces women of all shapes and sizes.

Thank you to Tonya over at My Cozy Little Farmhouse for nominating me for the Versatile Blogger award. This makes the second time in just a few months.

*Blush*

Really though it feels kind of nice to know that there are people out there not only actually reading my blog but enjoying it too! This whole endeaver started years ago because I wasn't sure how to process turning twenty-seven and figured blogging might be theraputic. Now here I am; eager to turn thirty (in 5 1/2 months) and earning my fellow bloggers respect - enough to be nominated for such a wonderful award.

Thank you Tonya and my readers.
