30 DURING 30

Recently I wrote a blog about having not made a 30 before 30 list and trying to rush accomplish 30 new things in the month of my birthday...but I'm realizing this isn't what I want to do. I don't want to rush and do 30 random things "just because". While a 30 before 30 list is a fun idea and motivational tool to try new things. I've never been one to conform to "social expectations" or, hell, rush into decisions.
So, here I am 20 days into my 30s and I've decided to do a 30 DURING 30 list. To welcome my 30s in with a thought out list of (not only new things or things I've accomplished these last 20 days) things I want to do, experience and accomplish in the next year.

And with that I am vowing to not feel like a failure if I only mark one or two things off this list. This is not a testament to my abilities or worth but perhaps it will motivate in ways I haven't been motivated before. So here is my 30 DURING 30 list (including items I have already done, at the time of this list, I think belong on this list)... in no particular order:
1. Have a pretty pretty princess cake! (I got it for my 30th! Thanks Mom!)
2. Experience the green fairy (absinthe) (Check. At the Cajun dinner with family. Yuck)
3. While on the booze train I've never had alcohol on a plane (On flight to Long Beach 2/1)
4. See a Cirque du Soleil show (Saw Amaluna with Mom on 2/9 in Seattle)
5. Play Hollywood tourist (Saw Grauman's Chinese Theatre, Hollywood sign and walk of fame 2/2)
6. Be on a movie and/or television set (Warner Brother's tour took me on the set of Mentalist, Pretty Little Liars, Ellen, Big Bang Theory and more 2/2)
7. See what the hub-bub is about Venice Beach (went on 2/3 don't need to go back)
8. Visit a psychic (had my palm read at Venice Beach; see above)
9. Visit at least two one new states (I visited Massachusetts in April, Maryland in July, and Colorado as a bonus 3rd in December)
10. Hike to top of Multnomah Falls
11. Take a class for fun (3/9 Best class of all!!)

13. Take a winery tour (4/21 1 vineyard, 2 tasting rooms and many bottles of wine later)

22. A weekend away with the BF (well this didn't happen all year...and now we're not together. So yea).
23. Waterfront Blues Festival, Portland OR (failed. It was right after graduation @ work and I was just too tired. Maybe next year).
24. Pay a strangers bill/tab at a restaurant
25. Watch all (of the BFs) Favorite Movies (I've seen one of his 2 favorite movies - Step Mom - but haven't seen Saving Private Ryan. Don't think I'm going to either).
26. Grow my hair and donate to Locks of Love.(10/16 Chopped off 10-inches)
27. Perfect (the best I can) my Grandmother Angie's lasagna (11/16 and 12/24 pretty good versions)
28. Create a Portland Food Passport containing 12 "want to try" restaurants (one a month) (created and doing okay with marking places off)
29. Try as many new foods as possible (so far the list now includes: Cambodian, Spanish tapas, Brazilian steak house, borsch, lemon cucumbers, plumcots, yellow plums, rabbit, Frito pie, poutine, sweetbreads and veal)...if you have suggestions let me know.
30. It's a surprise. I'll tell  you about it once it's happened. *wink* (Hooray!! I did it! I got promoted to the Director of Student Life position!! Read more here.)

There we have it. I'll cross them off as they are accomplished and will probably blog about a number of them and/or talk about it on Ms. Morgan's Reality Check Facebook page (so to follow my to-do list make sure to be following at both locations).

I'm ready and excited to start marking off items. Now to just pick.... WHAT FIRST?!

  1. I need to get started on my list!

    1. I had never heard of this list until just before my 30th. I think it's a fun idea too. Have fun putting yours together.

  2. What a geat idea. You have accomplished some fun things here already. I would love to see a Cirque du Soliel and go on a set of a television show.

thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving me your link so I could come and take a peek.

    1. Thanks Ronalee. I admit I'm always on the search for trying new things. This just gives me an excuse to have deadlines and blog about it! Haha.

  3. Super cute idea and great job so far! Best of luck.

    1. Thanks Shannon. Hope you'll be able to follow along as I tackle the remaining ones. :)

  4. This is a really great idea, you have wonderful things on your list.

    1. Thanks for stopping by Lauren. I tell you it was hard and easy at the same time to develop the list. Some were "MUST DO!" and then some I had to think about "what have I always wanted to do...?" Haha

  5. I love this idea and I definitely agree with you on not rushing into things you didn't really want to do.

    1. Thanks Micaela. I accomplished so many just in celebrating my birthday...but some of these bigger ones will have to take some more planning.

  6. I love this!! It's going to make me want to create one too and get working on it! Love the blog :)

    1. Thanks Meredith. I think it's a super fun idea that (hopefully) will hold me to accomplishing these in the next year. Have fun putting yours together and I hope you can follow along as I accomplish more on my list.
