The Portland City Grill has an infamous happy hour - to the point that at 3:30 a crowd will form on the first floor outside the elevators. Elevators that won't open until 4PM when Happy Hour starts upstairs on the 30th floor. The 30th floor with a surrounding view of the city:
The view is fabulous, but I used to work as a temp in this building and the office was on a floor above the restaurant, so I've seen this view before. The food however, I hadn't experienced. Yum Yum.
We decided to order a number of plates and share, so I could try as many as possible: gorgonzola waffle fries, crab/shrimp bruschetta, crab/avocado roll, rice paper spring rolls, warm salmon cakes, cold Thai noodle salad and ended with the Kung Pow calamari.
The most amazing of the dishes was the calamari. If you hadn't told me what the protein was I don't think I would have been able to guess. It was delicate and just melted in your mouth; not like eating pencil erasers which is often what is served in restaurants. The spices of the Kung Pow wasn't overwhelming either. I normally shy away from this style of food because all you taste are the spicy red chilies. This was spicy but not overpowering. Yum Yum.
Glad I got a sister's night out (we went to Buffalo Gap Saloon afterwards to hear The Fashion Nuggets) and I got to check off another restaurant from my Portland Food Passport.
