This weekend we celebrated Earth Day a little early. A while ago we purchased a few types of bulbs and on Saturday I finally planted them. The Dahlia and Peruvian Daffodils were planted in the back yard under a window. I just love Dahlias and have never heard of Peruvian Daffodils! I can't wait to see what they look like.
The Gladiolus were planted in the front yard under the kitchen window. Since the can grow a few feet tall we figured this would be the best place for them.
Aside from planting a few new flowers I did some upkeep to the existing garden: fed the flowers, watered the plants, pulled some weeds from the flower beds, and overturned the soil around the roses.
I also tried something I haven't before - planting vegetables and herb seeds. Now, we really don't have much in the way of space in our back so you can see the herbs were placed in a small troth like planter and the lettuce in a large deep square planter. We've planted them during the "recommended" season so we'll have to see what happens.
I absolutely love playing in the garden. To me it's not gardening unless I'm barefoot, earth under my soles, and digging deep into the dirt. I just don't have the greenest thumb so we'll have to see how these go. I feed and water and talk sweetly to my plants and hope they respond.
How did you honor our Mother Earth this year?
