Guest Blog: Jumpin Jammerz

This time of year is super busy at work for me. So I try to plan ahead, schedule future posts and find guest bloggers to fill in during the lag.

Today I have Jumpin Jammerz as a guest blog...because really? Who doesn't love footed PJs.

Being with someone for a long time can be both a blessing and a curse. It’s a blessing to have an awesome person in your life, but over time you might find a little bit of that spark fading. You might find that the spontaneity has seeped out to let predictability take the stage. Don’t worry though, it’s possible to rekindle the flame! Here are some ways to breathe life back into your relationship.

  • Do a little Role Playing - Role playing gives you and your spouse a chance to let loose for a little while and act like someone other than you. If you feel like bungling in the jungle (thank you, Jethro Tull), take a minute to put on matching tiger-striped onesies for adults, or whatever else suits your fancy. Women’s and Men’s footed pajamas are super comfy for prowling around the house. Take some photos to capture the moments!
  • Rekindle the best parts of your relationship by taking a few moments to delight in exploring their needs and desires. Change up the pattern! With only a little bit of effort, you can reap a lot of reward with your partner.

  • Change Patterns - As we live with our partners, we start to develop patterns. Break those patterns to add spontaneity to the relationship! What do you do when your person gets home? How can you make their experience a little better? Surprise yourself and your partner by doing something completely different.
  • Take Up a Hobby Together - This shouldn’t be a hobby that the both of you have already. This is a hobby that neither of you have, something that you can learn together. If the both of you are competitive, you might learn the nuances of a board game or sport. Maybe learning how to do stained glass? When you’re learning together, you’re also growing together.
  • Lounge Together - For those who don’t want to take up a sport, lounging around in your women’s and men’s footed pajamas is the perfect thing to take your mind off of the stresses of the day. Everyone has the ability to lounge and laugh. Watch a silly sitcom together, or try watching some foreign films and talk about them afterward.
  • Keep Trying - Never give up trying to reconnect. Flowers, chocolates, and other little things can be given at any time – not when trying to atone. You can get the both of you a gift like the sushi onesies for adults or maybe commemorate a love for wrestling with John Cena men’s footed pajamas.

    Asha vs the Cat Carrier

My cat, Asha, is a jackass....

First she has an unusual attachment to her cat carrier. She loves it! She sleeps in it whenever she can. She thinks it's her cave or something. Luckily it does make vet visits easy...well easier.

This morning it was sitting reversed on the washing machine (we had taken another cat to the vet recently and I hadn't put it up on the shelf yet). Because she's attached....she wanted it! Somehow she wiggled her way in. which then made the whole thing tumble over with her in it.

Now realize she weighs less than four pounds, so she had to have worked hard to push the carrier over. It weighs more than her for goodness sakes.

So there it is standing on its end (open side up) and she's looking confused and shocked. I pull her out, ask her what happened, try to hold back laughter, and then continue getting ready for work. But at this point she's spooked and zipping around the house. My mother walks by and Asha jumps around, waiving her limbs with hair standing straight up.

Overall she looks okay. I pet her and head to work.

Tonight I get home and realize she was limping...bad. Being the crazy-cat lady...I mean good kitty momma I am, I start to panic!

The vet bill is racking up in my head. X-rays, medication, casts...what if she broke her leg? Is it her shoulder? What's wrong with her shoulder? It doesn't look right....what is that...??

It's her "calming collar"...under her armpit. I'm not sure if that's what the flailing was about this morning or if was during the day. But mom and I tag team her, cut it off (because she won't let me pull it off) and she goes along her merry way.

She's fine. No more limping. She's just a jackass.

    Lizzie Borden Took an Axe...

....gave her mother forty whacks, when she saw what she had done, gave her father forty-one."

Whether you know the historical facts behind the story or not I'm sure we all know the rest of this nursery rhyme... just one of many morbid jump rope songs children sing on the playground.

Well, in true macabre tradition a few New Yorkers has turned this axe wielding murderess into a rock opera that rocked this bloggers world yesterday afternoon!

LIZZIE is a  4-women vocalist and 6 piece electric band that brings the urban legend of Lizzie Borden to a new level with songs like "Why Are All These Heads Off?" and "What the F*** Now, Lizzie".

I don't want to spoil it out there for anyone, but if you have an appreciation for the macabre and dark humor you need to see this play if it comes near you. There were times I got chills from the sadness and loneliness of Lizzie; to covering my mouth as to not burst too loud into laughter (all I can say is they made a bloody axe very funny).

I was so impressed with the musical talents and the song writing for this play that I went out at intermission and bought the soundtrack. Why yes this will be what I listen to on my way into work tomorrow morning.

I haven't been to see a play in too long and I'm so glad this was my reintroduction.

    Warm Berry Compote

Last weekend I bought a bunched of mixed berries to make a coffee cake for a family breakfast that didn't what to do with all these berries?

French toast and a warm berry compote of course!!

I looked at Pinterest to find some recipe I  could follow but wasn't too excited about any. So I combined a few items of my favorite and came up with the following. It was so yummy - tart and tangy but still naturally sweet from the berries (and the maple syrup doesn't hurt either).

    2 C. mixed berries
1/2 C orange juice (substitute your favorite juice or water)
    1/3 C maple syrup
    1 tsp lemon juice
    pink of sea salt

Add berries, juice, syrup, and salt into saucepan, on medium heat.
    Cover until boiling.
Remove lid and simmer on low 10minutes.

    Waffle Hashbrowns

This weekend we made waffle iron hashbrowns from tator tots!!
Place a layer of semi-frozen tots on a hot waffle iron (with a bit of Pam sprayed on it) and close shut (okay so we had more than a layer and ended up putting a cast iron pan on top to keep it closed. haha)
After only five minutes (about how long it takes to scramble some eggs) they're ready to serve. Nice and crispy and super fun looking!

    Navy as Neutral

I'm sure I'm not alone, when for years I only thought of black/white/brown as the limitation of "neutrals". Over years of learning to find my style more, of fashion blog following and embracing options and variations I've come to finally expand my view of "neutrals".

So when I recently I bought a beautiful navy sundress I was thinking of only the white shrug I owned...the navy would be the color and the white would be the neutral.

But the  more I pulled out of my closet the more variations and options I'm finding for this one dress. Such as my emerald green shoes, shrug and a teal/navy necklace set I own.

And I'm trying to decide what I can accessorize this salmon cardigan - which I love with the navy dress. I'm thinking pearls....

I love when a single new piece can expand my wardrobe by an additional three outfits!

What is your favorite versatile and you can use multiple ways?

    Peanut Butter Nutella Cookies

I am a fan of semi-homemade goodies. It makes a mid-week treat easy even if you've had a hard day at work or with the kiddos.

I recently used a Betty Crocker's Peanut Butter cookie mix as a base with some salted-caramel Nutella to make some sweet and salty chewy delights.

Following the ratios on the bag, replace milk for water and butter for oil.
Add the egg and mix well.
Put 1/2 cup of Nutella in a microwavable cup and put in microwave for 20 seconds.
Drizzle over cookie mix and gently fold (think marble cake).

Drop tablespoons on ungreased cookie sheet, and put into preheated (350) oven for 10minutes.

Even the next day the cookies are chewy and soft.

    Gardening Question

Okay gardening friends. Who can explain what has happened to our roses? This one bush has been producing it's regular large blooms as well as some that looked mutated/deformed...wrinkly really.

This is the first season this has happened and we're not sure what went wrong. Any clues?
